2017 Oates Vic Open Pre Qualifying at Curlewis

Posted on

Even after 30 mm of rain that fell over the last 24 hours, the sand-based course at Curlewis showed little signs of the recent soaking at today’s pre-qualifier for the 2017 Oates Vic Open.

For the first time, this year’s pre-qualifier was played across three courses including Portarlington, Kooringal and Curlewis.

With a full field, including 35 amateurs with a GA handicap of 2.4 or less, the competition at Curlewis was tight with only six spots in this week’s Open up for grabs.

It was Queensland PGA Professional, Paul Hayden, who took the first qualifying position with a score of 67.

Local amateur and friend of Curlewis, Steve Symons, proved his 2016 qualifying result was not by chance, repeating his great form to take the second position with a score of 68.

A play-off for the last two places resulted in Adam Burdett and Simon Hawkes eventually claiming those positions, with Burdett scoring an eagle on the first.

Curlewis feels privileged to again have been chosen as one of three clubs to host the Oates Vic Open qualifier.
