Curlewis Golf Club continues on its mission to drive (pun intended!) excitement and innovation into a sport that has long been bound in shrouds of tradition and, some would say, crustiness.
Earth has been turned and it is full steam ahead on the construction of a state-of-the-art golf driving range facility which has the Australian golfing community abuzz with excitement. Featuring 18 x automated driving booths, sensational golf simulators and great indoor/outdoor hospitality options, this is a destination in the making - set to take golf to a new level in the region.
Scheduled for opening in early September 2017, the Curlewis Driving Range is designed to be a true community hub, literally lot of things for a lot of people.
For golfers, the new facility will be a dynamic option for those wanting to practice before their ‘comps’, be fitted out, have lessons or just spend some ‘focus time’ perfecting particular elements of their game.
With numerous activities planned for the vast interior of the Driving Range, the foundations of a vibrant multi-purpose centre for all ages are currently being scoped to be ready for activation upon opening. Conferences too, will be provided with a unique option for their gatherings – with slick AV facilities and a myriad of fun break out options on offer as well as great dining options to suit all ideas and budgets.
“Lyndsay and I made a commitment to Curlewis members and the broader community in July 2015 and we are excited about entering this exciting new phase of the journey that is Curlewis Golf Club,” said David Sharp, Curlewis Director.
“The new Driving Range will extend the renowned Curlewis ability to welcome. It has been designed as a unique and special place that brings people together on a number of levels,” he said.
One aspect of the Curlewis development is that it backs onto the Bellarine Rail Trail – walkers, cyclists, families and tourists will be able to cruise in for a coffee, refreshment, breakfast, brunch or snack.
Long hailed as the ‘emerald’ of The Bellarine, an ongoing suite of initiatives and improvements continue at the golf club that is redefining Australian golf and the concepts of community activity and fun. The fastest growing golf club in Australia is giving members – and green fee players alike – exactly what they want on a number of levels.
The much loved Curlewis course itself is seductive yet deceptively challenging. Watered year-round via an onsite water reclamation plant, the large and true greens with undulating sand belt-like fairways are known to lull players into a false sense of security yet no one in their right mind should take Curlewis for granted. This 72 par, links-style playground commands respect and can take down even the most seasoned of golfers. Ongoing improvements to the course continue to delight all that step out to tackle these hallowed fairways.
Popular and highly respected is the full time, in house PGA Pro, Steve Brodie. Both Steve and the Curlewis Pro-Shop team welcomes players of all standards. A passionate, talented pennant cohort as well as an innovative Junior Development Program (complimentary for all Junior members) completes the membership picture here alongside seriously popular Women’s Introductory Clinics with Steve Brodie.
The pioneer introduction of GolfBoards – a very cool fusion between a golf cart, snowboard and Segway – has been an exciting addition for members and public access players alike.
Another recent innovation has been the introduction of Foot Golf, a dynamic international phenomena which combines two of the world’s favourite sports, soccer and golf. Fun for all ages and abilities, the word is spreading fast as people take to the fairways in an exciting new way!
The totally refurbished clubhouse continues to command both attention and swelling visitation - and not just for golfers! With spectacular vistas spanning the You Yangs, Corio bay and beyond, it’s both hip and welcoming - a great place to relax and enjoy the full bar, coffee, snacks, lunch as well as brilliant Bistro dinners on Friday and Saturday nights (note, don’t expect to arrive and automatically get a table for dinner, it’s always booked out and bustling!) A contemporary menu awaits – one which includes house made cakes crafted by Head Chef Tara Thyer. Already a huge hit with members, the array of treats are drawing coffee and cake lovers from near and far.
